MSU 3-Month Look Ahead

  • News

2017 has arrived and we are beginning to plan projects we will be working on for this year. Right now the University remains cautious as we await the governor’s budget recommendation for fiscal year 2018 and how it may impact what we need to do. The following is a list of projects that should be bid in the next few months. The list is subject to change. Renovation of Hass-Darr Hall, West Plains Campus                             
Project Description:  The university is renovating and adding on to the building which served as the West Plains Post Office. The Post Office’s lease came to an end and they have moved to a new location. This facility will become a welcome center and admissions office for new students and the home of AACCESS, Honors, Tutoring and a Veterans Services/VIP Center. Much of the addition will provide an expanded book store and student union.

Asbestos Removal, Hass-Darr Hall, West Plains Campus                    
Project Description:  The existing building scheduled to be renovated for Hass-Darr Hall contains asbestos materials. This project removes asbestos containing materials including but not limited to floor tile, mudded thermal system insulation joints and soffit material. The building is currently vacated and will be gutted and remodeled immediately following the removal.

Living Room Draperies, Sunvilla Tower
Project Description:  This project will provide and install new draperies and hardware. The existing sheers will be reused.

Replace Climate Control Systems, Karls Hall                          
Project Description:  This project replaces the existing shading system, the existing evaporative cooling system, and the existing ventilation window system with new systems that improve sustainable measures within the greenhouse.

Support Ambulation System, Room 101, McQueary Family Health Sciences Hall                    
Project Description:  This project will modify building structure and install a ceiling-mounted overhead body-weight supported ambulation system.

Floor Finish Replacement, Floors 2-4, Scholars House

Project Description:  This project will replace existing floor finishes in student suites on floors two through four.

New Parking Lot, Walnut Street                       
Project Description:  A parking lot is to be constructed south of Kentwood Hall.  The design will include both asphalt and concrete options.

Computer Lab Renovations, Cheek Hall                      
Project Description:  The existing Cheek Hall computer lab on the first floor shall be reconfigured to allow for the construction of a new Computer Sciences computer lab, resulting in two separate computer labs.  The entire area currently occupied by the open computer lab will be renovated to provide for the two labs plus support area. This project is to be completed during the summer of 2017.

Rigging Point Installation, Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts                         
Project Description:  This project will install engineered rigging points above the audience seating area for the upcoming Phantom of the Opera production in 2018. Installation may require the removal of existing roofing.

Estimated Construction Cost:  $100,000

Replace Aging Boilers, Kentwood Hall                        
Project Description:  This project replaces the aging boilers located in the basement with new energy efficient boilers. The project will also have alternates to relocate an existing chilled water pump and re-insulate the hydronic piping within the mechanical room.

Estimated Construction Cost:  $216,000

Award of Contract:  April 19, 2017
Start of Construction:  May 1, 2017

Beyond these projects, we are working on larger projects that will be bid later in the spring/summer.  As always, the construction industry helps make Missouri State University a place where students want to come to further their education.  For that, we are very thankful for what everyone does to make MSU a great place.
