Spring is here and activity has greatly picked up here in the Planning, Design & Construction office as we work toward summer and fall projects for our campus. Many projects end up with short planning periods in an effort to get them out for bidding. This allows contractors time to actually do the construction. As such, the list below may have dates yet to be set or may change. The projects we are tracking include:

 

Install Fire Suppression System, Garnett Library & Putnam Student Center, West Plains Campus

Project Description:  Install fire suppression system in Garnett Library and Putnam Student Center on the West Plains Campus. Upgrade existing fire panel to support/include new suppression system.

New Elevator Installation, Kentwood Hall
Project Description:  The University is replacing the existing elevator and constructing a new stair tower providing better service to the residence hall. This work will begin at the end of the spring semester and will continue into the fall semester until all work can be completed.

Update Fire Protection in Rooms, Hutchens House

Project Description:  Upgrade student room smoke detectors and related fire protection devices to be addressable units.

FY16 Job Order Contract Services – Security Systems Installation

Project Description:  The University is seeking proposals for an annual contract to allow the installation of security cameras, blue light telephones, electronic door access, and alarm security systems along with all design and programming required to support the installation of these items.

Asbestos Removal, Ellis Hall
Project Description:  In preparation for the upcoming renovation of Ellis Hall, any asbestos-containing materials in the building will be removed. Work will start after the building has been vacated in late May following the completion of our spring semester and all work is to be completed before July.

Masonry Repairs, Jim D Morris Center

Project Description:  A water infiltration study has been completed on the south side of the building and repairs have been planned. This coincides with the need for a new roof system so these two needs will be combined as one project and implemented through the use of a state buying cooperative. Work will start as soon as designs can be completed and the project bid, probably by the end of May.

Data Modifications, Craig Hall

Project Description:  Project installs conduit and non-metallic surface mounted raceway in the perimeter offices on the third floor of Craig Hall to support installation of new network data cabling. The data cabling will be installed by MSU telecom personnel. It is anticipated that this work would be completed during the summer of 2016 and individual offices will be impacted for several days each as the raceway and cabling is installed.

Renovate the Student Exhibition Center

Project Description:  This project involves miscellaneous repair and replacement of exterior wood siding, deteriorated wood window sills, caulking, painting, and restoring the fire escape on the building’s west side. Additional work includes the interior demolition and removal of existing plaster walls, ceilings, and exterior knee walls. Spray foam insulation will be installed within the 3rd floor attic and exterior knee walls.

ROTC Reception Area Renovation, Freudenberger House

Project Description:  Redesign and configure the vestibule, the staff work area for the receptionist, and the display area and cases.

Food Court Renovations, Plaster Student Union

Project Description:  One of the food court venues at the Plaster Student Union will be converted to “Burrito Bowl,” offering a variety of multi-national menu items. Front counter, equipment, and finish changes will transform the space this summer. Work is expected to be complete by fall semester.

Renovation, Meyer Library

Project Description:  Design and renovate rooms 103, 104, 105, and 106 into space for the open access computer labs currently in rooms 200/201, classroom 205, and open space in 202, 207, and 208.

Kitchen Renovation, Professional Building

Project Description:  With the relocation of the Hospitality and Restaurant Administration department, the existing kitchen will be reequipped to suit the needs of the Dietetics program. Most finishes including floor, ceiling, and walls will be replaced and new equipment will be provided to support classes in the space. All modifications are scheduled to be complete sometime this summer.

Floor Repair, Blair-Shannon Dining Center

Project Description:  This project involves the removal of deteriorated concrete under the steam kettles and replacing with new concrete and refinishing the new floor with poly-crete floor surface that is easily cleansed. In addition, the existing steam pipe insulation may have to be replaced.

Dining Center Ventilation, Blair-Shannon

Project Description:  This project will improve the ventilation associated with both the Blair-Shannon Kitchen and the associated dish room.

Renovation for Health Center, Monroe Apartments

Project Description:  The Taylor Health and Wellness Center services will be temporarily relocated to the first floor of the Monroe Apartments while the existing building is deconstructed and the new facility is constructed on the existing site. The clinic will occupy Suites 1001 through 1009 and the Gathering Room 100, in addition to Corridor 190. Apartments located on the upper floors will remain occupied during the entire project.

Flooring Improvements, JQH Arena

Project Description:  Circus animals damaged the wood practice court floor at the JQH Arena. The floor was immediately replaced with a temporary wood floor, but a permanent replacement needs to be installed.  New floor material will be reinforced concrete to match the surrounding floor and work is expected to take place in August.

As always, Missouri State University appreciates the work the construction community does for us. At Pummill Hall, we recently installed a plaque to thank everyone by name who had a part in that renovation project. We welcome all those who worked on the project to stop by Pummill to see the plaque (pictured below). It is located on the first floor near the south entry.
