The consistently warmer weather signals a very busy time for the Springfield Contractors Association. The social events, meetings, and activities will be coming fast. The Spring Shootout was just completed and Travis DeLong reports that good, safe fun was had by all. The Spring Golf Outing is coming in May and the popular four-person scramble will be the format again. June brings a membership mixer which offers the opportunity for potential new members to meet Windsor. The SCA has its general meetings in May (breakfast) and June (dinner) on the first Tuesday of the respective month. Committees will be meeting, the bid calendar will be filling up, and the end of spring will be active (and don’t forget the Pig Roast, more golf, and the Chicken BBQ are coming this summer.)

I need you to be active also. I have found that generally most of our membership is not only willing but in many cases want to help out when needed. Well, I need your help. I have some ideas to make our busy spring even busier. I have three very easy, very simple requests that will make a huge difference for your association. First, attend as many of the events listed up there in the first paragraph as possible. That’s easy. I need you to show up. For those of you who regularly attend, I look forward to seeing you again. For those of you who haven’t been around in a while, I really miss you. I don’t know what you have been up to. Please come out and get reacquainted.

Secondly, bring someone with you. Bring employees, colleagues, associates, vendors, designers, friends, family, someone. Simply say, “Hey, I’m going to a fun and informative meeting of the Springfield Contractors Association for breakfast on the 6th of May. I would really enjoy your coming along with me.” That’s easy isn’t it? If your invitee hedges a little, simply remind them that there is a really good chance that they will get to see Q from Q and Company, and that will typically be all that is needed to garner assent to your invitation. Invite a member you haven’t seen in a while or a non-member that might be interested. In the end I am asking you to bring a friend.

The third simple request I have is to share some information. I know that you know someone who should be a member of the Springfield Contractors Association. I need you to look through your Rolodex, scour your memory, scan through your Facebook friends and come up with one person to recruit for membership. I am not even asking you to do the recruiting, although that would be a powerful invite if you did. I just want you to please get that person’s name and contact information to Sheryl at the SCA. You know that HVAC guy on the jobsite who has his ductwork in your way every morning when you show up? Why not refer him? (And why is he always getting to work before you?) You may unknowingly refer someone who is already a member, or someone that has already been referred. That’s ok, Sheryl will sort through all of that. Just please send in one name and contact information.

See – all three requests are easy – show up, bring someone and refer a potential member. Your Association needs your help. Ralph Waldo Emerson said “It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.” That is my two cents. – Brent
