July 16 Board Meeting

SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION AT JULY 16 BOARD MEETING

President Jerry Hackleman called the meeting to order at the SCA Building. Fifteen Board members were present. The Treasurer’s Report and one new member were approved.

The Employment Service reported little activity.

The AIA/Government Liaison Committee reported the City issued permits for 55 projects (62% in 10 Days). The City is conducting final testing of the Eplan system and will host a webinar for anyone who is interested. There will be some fee increases including charges for change orders and addenda after plans have been reviewed. The County reported they are making a wishlist of projects that would be possible if the 3/4cent sales tax is approved on August 5. MoDOT has announced they will make six lanes of Highway 65 from James River Freeway to CC and add lanes to 160 from I-44 to Willard, among other projects, if the sales tax wins approval. They are seeing fewer bidders on their projects this year. City Utilities reported they are seeing more construction activity. The solar project is completed and will be connected to the grid. The need for standard bidding procedures for all public entities was discussed.

The MSU and R-XII Liaison Committees did not meet due to summer vacations.

The Nominating Committee recommended the following for the mailout ballots: GC – Scott Bracy, Jim Carson and GR Stovall; Subs – Michael Bauer, JW DeLong, Georgia Powell and Gil Riemann; Suppliers – Kurk Brown and Aaron Harless; and Associates – Bill Bergmann, Mike DeLong and Mark Gambon. An orientation for new Board members was suggested as a way to bring them up to date on current issues.

We will endorse passage of Amendment 7 on August 5. We will put up a sign on our property, send emails to members encouraging a “yes” vote and publish information and opinion pieces on the website. The need for a policy defining the parameters regarding political endorsements was discussed. The Board agreed to continue the long-standing policy of not endorsing individual candidates in any elections.

There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
