The Nuts & Bolts at SCA – April 2

April General Membership Meeting Tomorrow

The April General Membership meeting is TOMORROW!

Register here before 10 a.m. to learn more about Firestopping.

Need another reason to attend? The City is in the process of drafting ordinances to adopt the 2018 ICC Codes, and revise them as needed. Adoption is anticipated this year. One of the revisions being considered is extending the requirements for special inspection of firestopping beyond those published in the 2018 IBC (Section 1705.17) which limits special inspection of firestopping to high-rise buildings or buildings assigned to Risk Category III or IV.

Seward Meintsma with Building Development Services will explain the rationale for doing so and speak to the importance of installing firestopping and inspecting its installation in accordance with requirements stipulated in Listed Systems and Engineering Judgements, and speak to the rationale for providing this information on construction documents submitted to the City for review.

April 3 Ballot

The SCA Board of Directors has endorsed two propositions that Ozarks Technical Community College is placing on the April 3 ballot in communities within the college’s taxing district.

Proposition A is a renewal of a 5-cent property tax, approved by voters in 1998, that has been used to complete the college’s Industry and Transportation Technology Center and to establish many high-demand technical and healthcare degrees. Proposition B, which also has a sunset, would allow OTC to create a Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Technology in Springfield with training focused on skills needed for quality jobs in our region. Prop B would allow for the expansion of technical and allied health programs at the Richwood Valley and Table Rock campuses and the addition of a new center in Republic.
