The Nuts & Bolts – February 12

Jerry Hackleman & Danny “Mouse” Letterman

SCA sends our sincere sympathy to the families of Jerry Hackleman and Danny Letterman.
Jerry Hackleman was the President Emeritus and Chief Estimator for DeWitt and Assoc. for 20 years as well as an active member and Past President of SCA. Jerry passed away on Wednesday, January 31. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (Siteman-WUSTL-EDU) specifically for LeioMyoSarcoma Cancer Research and/or The National LeioMyoSarcoma Foundation. Danny “Mouse” Letterman, husband of former SCA Executive Director Sheryl Letterman, passed away on Jan. 25. The family requests memorial donations to his son and daughter-in-law’s adoption fund at GoFundMe.com/Letterbaby. Danny’s full obituary is available online here.

February General Membership Meeting

Last Tuesday was the February General Membership Meeting. Sponsored by Generation Next, the meeting featured a Toolbox Talk by Missouri Employers Mutual and a panel of the 2018 Faces to Know. Dianna Devore discussed the SCA’s workforce development initiatives and committee options for members. Stacie Ramos explained the benefits of allowing workers under the age of 40 to join Generation Next and encouraged those able to attend the Membership Drive to come and learn more about the group. King Block discussed his experience as someone involved in both Generation Next and the SCA as the Chair of two committees as well as the changes for the Pig Roast in 2018 and why they were made. Generation Next Membership Event

The Generation Next Membership Event is tomorrow night! If you missed the February 9th deadline and are still interested, please email gennext@springfieldcontractors.org ASAP. All SCA members are invited to attend Generation Next social events!

The $5 entry fee will cover shoes, a pizza bar, two hours of bowling, and door prizes. Alcohol is not included but is available. March General Membership Meeting


Mark your calendar now for the the March General Membership Meeting! The meeting will featuer a panel discussing How to Attract New Talent focusing on today’s youth and what they are looking for in an employer. Come to the meeting to learn tips on how to stand out in a world of white noise to recruit the skilled workers graduating from high school, OTC, and MSU.

Workforce Development Opportunity

The outdoor space is officially full! Indoor exhibits are still needed, so there’s still time to reserve your space! Build My Future is a hands on construction showcase to show high school students the opportunities in the construction and trades industry.
Register today to be an exhibitor and help build an industry interest among hundreds of area high school students. The exhibitor fee of $100 is waived for all sponsors.
